Collaborative Translation Workshop: Tiny Forms vs Expanded Translations (EN)
A workshop on collaborative translation. The workshop by the VERBatsiya Translation Group invites participants to explore Zhuk (“Beetle”), possibly the world’s shortest poetic form: a three-line poem following a 2–2–2 pattern. The form was noticed and conceptualized by Ukrainian poets Oleh Kotsarev, Bohuslav Poliak, Oleh Kliufas, and Lesyk Panasiuk. Taking this radically condensed form as a starting point, the workshop will explore how much meaning, rhythm, and imagery can inhabit an extremely limited poetic space. Participants will approach Zhuk through translation and transposition, moving beyond the search for verbal equivalents and experimenting with ways in which a poem can travel across languages, forms, and materials. The workshop invites participants to test the limits of poetic compression while expanding what we understand as the possible languages of translation.
Working language: English
Workshop duration: 180 minutes
Maximum number of participants: 12
Participation Fee: 850 CZK
The participation fee includes a free entry to the festival evening programme.
